DISTRICT NEWS.
URENUI. (From our own Correspondent.) The Mauris' bail, which has bee a looked forward to for some weeks, took place ,'on inday evening last. The weather was perfect. The night could not have been better for dancing, and the music by Mrs. George's orchestra, New Plymouth was splendid. The committee of young Maori men, with Mr. Ted AYMte us secretary, left no stone unturned to make the function a suc--The lloor was in perfect order, and a glance at flic stage, which was crowded with onlookers, told that things ww going on all right. Mr Sam Johnston and Mr. Skipper Tuta undertook the duties of M'.sO., and with j-pmething like 200 guests to attend to, I must say they did it in style. -Supper was set out- in a, marquee in front of the (hall, and tlie. tables were a sight, for not only were they beautifully decorated, but were also loaded with all sorts of ■good things. Dancing was kept up till alum I 4 o'clock, when all went 'home after a real good' time A very large number of Europeans ultciuled. Diiriii** the evening. Mr. Buchlcr. in a neat little speech, thanked the Maoris for the pleasant evening spent Mr. Kapinga. on behalf of the Maori*, responded. The committee are much indebted to Mrs. -.)'. Ihirko and Mrs. Itandlcy for their kind assistance in decorations and during Mippor, al-to lo Mr. Daivy Ccorgc, who i-> a "real sport."
