QUEEN'S .STRANGE TOUR. VISIT TO AMERICA. Much mysteiy gim-ounoj the visit which Que; i! Fbonore of Bulgaria intends to'piy tlio United States this summer. She is expected to arrive this month for a to;v of the country, but the reasons for tin- journey are unknown, and no official notice thus far has been taken by the Washington Government I of her intentions. It is known that the Queen really wanted Mr C. D. Brown, the Commissioner to Bulgaria of the Sun Francisco Exposition, -to act as her' personal agent during ilier American tour, "but he declined. He is quoted- as saying that ibt Queen explained to him that the objc.'t of her journey was to refute stories of Bulgarian atrocities during the Balkan war, and to secure American sympathy for the Bulgarians. This reason is believed to be. absurd. It is estimated that there arc not more than 30,000 Bulgarians in the United States and Canada, and America's ati titude towards Balkan affairs is not of [sufficient importunes to justify Queen £ Eleonore's visit on that score! • It is believed that Bulgaria desires i to float a large loan in the United State, and Queen Eleonore's visit is 'counted upon by the Bulgarian Governi'ment to pave the way for successful I negotiations with American financiers. , Queen Eloonore will address a number 1 of meeting* in America, and her speeches it is expected, will centre about the high civilisation in Bulgaria, and will intimate that the Bulgarian *csire for full liberty and self-development is handicapped by the attitude of the European' Bowers, It is reported that the Bulgarian Finance Minister may accompany Queen Eleunore, but it would not cause surprise if he camo later, after Queen Eleonore had done pioneer work, or had sent a confidential agent to conduct negotiations with Wall Street magnates. If these conjectures are right, it is believed that Queen Eleonore's will make flhe first effort of a modern queen to act a.-i a publicity agent for her country. Her journey to America is not that of the first reigning sovereign. King Kalafcaua, of Hawaii, visited the United States about forty years ago, and subsequentlly Queen Kapiolani. of 'Hawaii, also toured in America, both receiving royal honors. The Emperor Pom Pedro, of Brazil, and Hi" Kmpres"- were special guests of General 'Grant in America in 187 li. Queen Elenonore's visit, however, will be the first that any European Sovereign has ever paid ta America.
