The Borough Council has been notified by tho Minister for Railways that he cannot withdraw the reservations under which certain, land at Moturoa was granted to the council, as it may at any time in the, future .be needed bv the Department. This baa, he says, been his expenenco in grants of this nature. The land in question is needed to allow the tramway to be oxtended to the foot of tjhe breakwater without crossing the line, and it formed the subject of a recent deputation from the council to the Minister when the latter was in Now Plymouth.
honrathmg. m the nature of a bombslieJl was sprung upon a mating held on Monday night, to deal with the foimation of a Tarnnaki section of the Public Servants' Association. Tho object of ibne meeting was to elect officers for tinnew section, which was virtually formed at an inaugural meeting held previously, but the secretary of the Wanganui section, who was present, announced that the territory of the Wanganui branch included most of Ta.rann.ki. It wii, obviously impossible for this state of affairs to continue, and further proceedings weio suspended pending an application to have the part of TaT.anaki now included in Wanganui brought inot uic district covered by the new xectivu. In this way a niombershifp of over 21)0 is expected for th'e now branch. A hitch few occurred weirding the question (frequently discussed at nvotmgM of the New Plvmouili Borough Council) of the demolition of the Oriitmon stable*, as the following decision of the council will show: "That the Public Health Department be informed that the council having, at the direction 'of the District Ifcalth Officer, and in good faith, given notice in pursuance of the certificates of condemnation is■vmi by the. District Health Officer (Dr Ohesson) requiring the demolition of 'the Criterion stables; that such notice having expired, and 1 the building not ■liaring bwn demolished, the council, in order to compel compliance with the nwtice, applied to the District Health Officer (Dr Finch) for evidence in sunport of the condemnation certificate issued by his predecessor, Dr Ohesson, and now barns thai l>v Kinoh is not •prepared to giro evidence that the buildings should be pulled down; Unit un-dnr the circumstances the Department be requested to state wluit steps it proposes to take in the matter."
