Skiti r «p)> reporting on the formation and | mctaHing of Waterloo road, stated that | the total lengtih was about 18 chains. His former estimate for the work vu ! £376. _ The only means of reducing j this estimate was by omitting the footpath on the western portion of' the road. This would reduce the cost to £IBO and give ten chans of road 19ft wide, with 12ft of metals-Held over. ■ TREE-PLANTING. The engineer also reported on the question of tree-planting on Nob's Line l at Fitzroy. The street was 66ft wide j from Devon to McLean street, and from ! McLean street to the beachJj£*a« 100 ft jwide. He considered it t£ptjlkn ideal j street for tree planitng, iSsit would , become the main approach to the beach from the eastern portion of the bor- ] otigh. The trees should be planted in : the centre of the road, 33ft apa/rt, the central portion of the street to be grassed.—lt was decided to proceed with the Work at once. | BAND SUBSIDY, j The secretary of tilie Citizens' Committee ol_ the Band (Mr. R. Ellis) wrote i that his attention had been drawn to '.the borough estimatse for the current ' year, which made no provision for the j grant «f £2O for municipal concerts. IHe pointed out that though the eommittee had a considerable sum invested i on bdhalf of the Band, none of the proceeds ol thiy was being used for its ordinary maintenance. The matter was referred to the Band! Committee. MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS. Mr. I*wis Jackson forwarded reports! on the fire escapes at various boarding* houses in the town, and also on the con« ' (lition of a number of verandahs to 11' buildings in the principal streets, except Devon street.—i-Tho attention of thcoww j ers will be called to various natters mentioned in the'rejfort.
