Styrax, Lady Elgiva and Firing Lino were the best backed in the Balgownie Hack. Kurapai and Sir Donald made the early running, but Lady F.lgiva and Sweet Anne came through at the bend, and had the finish to themselves.

The Grandstand Steeple was marred by accident. Passive fell at the first fence, bringing down Riro Atu, who was ! a hot favorite. Sir Lethe ran off, 'and Tcwhotu fell.
