Mavrogordato wan in fine form. His early advantage was due to his continually playing on to Brookes' backhand corner. Later he became slower, and Brookes wore him down. Brookes requires a lot more mi the grae's before he recovers championship form, j His service yesterday was poor, giving many first faults a few inches beyond the line. He frequently beat the Australian with his fine sideline driven. Brookes finished strongly in the fifth set. The court was slippery, owing to the rain, but Brookes played a Wonderful, game on the treach erous surface.
