Twenty" persons wore crossing the gang plank from Hie steamer Frederick VIII.. when the plank broke, and men, v.'until and children were precipitated into the Hudson river. Two were |drowned,' three are missing, and some [are in hospital. One mun, wilro failed to rescue a friend's child, went temporarily iiiHane. Tho accident was due to over-
crowding. As Oho last whistle was blown, the rfiore visitors hurried off, and belated steerage passengers rushed aboard and > their weight was too great. Members of the crew dived into the water, attempting rescue-;, but the tide carried away the foodie*.
