COAL-MINING CONDITIONS.

SINGLE SHIFTS SUGGESTED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 21, 8.15 p.m. Sydney, May 21.

The Northern Miners' Wages Board in an award has refused the miners' demand for increased rates for the afternoon shift at the Maitland collieries. The award has a currency of three years, and is generally against the men.
