A HYDROPLANE FLIGHT. Sydney, May 14. M. Maurice Guillaux (pronounced Gwee-lo) added another performance to his already long list of aviation flight* by navigating a Farman hydroplane over the waters of Sydney harbour and through the atmosphere above it. It was announced that at four o'clock yesterday afternoon the brilliant Frenchman would give a private exhibition in a new hydroplane which Mr. Anthony Eordern, of the well-known department ■tores, had imported. There was a little flelay in the getting of the huge machine down to the. beach into the water, and it was half-past four and getting K Bark when the biplane at last floated lightly on three canvas-covered, boatgbaped floats on the calm waters of Double Bay. . Then the engine was started, and accompanied by a large, stout mechanic, M. Guillaux started. At first he skimmed lightly over the water, leaving a flare of foam behind each float. Then he missed a wave, and the biplane soared, looking rather heavy and swaying a little. But the roar of ■ the engine deepened and quickened, and up to about the 200 ft mark it rose. Straight down harbor Guillaux steered, curved about an island, and swung away into a wide bay, to all appearances just akimming the masts of passing shipping. On returning to the starting point, Ur. Hordcrn, accompanied by M. Guillaux, made a succissfui ascent ,aml remained hovering abi;ce the shipping for aome time. By that time it Was almost dark, and the effect of the wide-winged craft, winging-slowly above the lighted ferries near Circular Quay, was a strange One. It is understood that Mr. Hordcrn - is importing a number of these machines for Australian aviators; certainly this one looked safer than a fast aeroplane, and the thrill of skimming over the barbour, with the knowledge that if one liked he could rise, should tend to make tiome- of the idle rieli of Sydney invest in one of these hydroplanes. They only .cost £3OOO each.
