SHEARERS AND THE PREMIER.
♦ A DEPUTATION DECLINED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night The Shearers' Conference concluded todnv. Mr Laracy, general secretary, reported that ho had endeavored to arrange for a deputation from the conference to wait on the Premier, but had been unable to get a satisfactory answer. He moved, that if the conference did not, during the afternoon, receive a telephone message that Mr Massey was ready to receive a deputation as,hc had promised earlier to do, "we take no further steps in the matter." The motion was adopted. States the official report:—"No farther communication was received from the Minister for Labour, therefore no deputation waited on him" Mr Laracy was appointed to represent tihe Shearers Association at the July conference,. A resolution was adopted deprecating the imprisonment of Holland, Young, and others, in connection with the strike, and asking for the release of the men now in prison, and the repeal of the sedition laws.
