TEE WATERS RECEDING. " HEAVY SEAS ON THE COAST. ■Bjr Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last-Nig*t. The floods readied their maximum at high tide in the early hours of this morning, and with the ebb the flow! commenced to recede, and the water has . been steadily running out all day. A* the worst, the floods were within 19t inchea ol tye 1909 flood record. The ecttlors, taken all round, wer« well warned, and stock losses are comparatively slight. Frank Read, of Poupawae, lost 40» sheep, and A. J. Cameron, of Poupawae, also lost some stock. Judd Brog., • of Makuri, also sustained some losses. Wash-ooite and slips on the railway are very serious, and! traffic will be entirety suspended for «v week. The apt proacnes. to the Grey street bridge and Peel street bridge in town are washed out, thus cutting off vehicular traffit with the railway station. The low- ' level Ptiblie Works bridge on the Napier construction works is again threatened, the approaches having been waahed away. Seas on tho coast arc very heavy, and the Petono, which arrived from Pieton, experienced the roughest and most ternpestuoue passage in Captain Cowan's sixteen years' experience on the coast rfib Telephonic communication with inland centres is subject to interruption, and ' , telegraphic communication with the B ? u l h J ia uncertain. Tho rain storm has ' abated somewhat, and indications point to a break in the weather.
