THE BROTHERHOOD.

ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Brotherhood in the Good Templar Hall wn Sunday,' Mr. T. G. presided over a good attendance of mem- , tiers. REPORT. The annual report of the committee j.-atod tihat the nTannor in which interest in the Brotherhood, had' been sustained, especially during' the winter months, seemed to indicate that the institution was filling a recognised need of the town. During the past session, tlio Brotherhood had been fortunate in securing the services of some very ab'.o speakers, and the meetings had been both pleasant and profitable, Special | mention was mado of the address of ; Lady Stout as a profitable innovation, j During the earlier portion of the sessI ion, meetings were held weekly, but dur--1 iiTg the earlier sumnier months, only ; monthly, and towards the end of the . summer they discontinued, as the ' attendances seemed"to indicate that the meetings were most popular in the winter. 'Special mention was 1 a'so made t'o those who had given recitations and musical items which, added much to the enjoyment of Bus meetings. The various committees had worked well, but in too many case 3 the work has fallen on the shoulders of one or two. This was not in accordance with the principles of the institution, and it was hbped it would ha remised in the coming year. Thanks were, expressed to the trustees of the hall for its use, and attention was drawn to the question of hall hire. Tho Helping Hand Committee had reported that nothing like the number of appeals for help had been received during the past year as previously. Mention was made of the loss sustained by the resignation of the pianist (Mr A. V. Carbines) and of the founder j (the Rev. J. W. Burton), whose personality and broad-mindedness had left | its mark on the institution and set a , standard whiclr members must strive to maintain. Tho (balance-sheet showed a credit balance of IDs lOd, and this, with tile report was adopted without discussion. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
