GENERAL HAMILTON'S VISIT

CADET PARADE AT PALMERSTON. By Telesrraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Nig*ht. General Sir lan Hamilton, accompanied 1)}". General. Godley, inspected this afternoon the No. C area group of cadets at Fitzherbert. The boys assembled at the showgrounds, and marched to the scene of the manoeuvres, a distance of about three miles. Here attack and defence were carried out, 1038 cadets taking part. The manoeuvres were watched carefully by the General. He criticised the delay on the part of some of tlie companies in tlic attack, and also the holding of scouts till the last, as they would all have been shot in actual war. He considered the boys carried out their duties well, and complimented them accordingly. Tho presentation !of cups won for shooting during t'he season then took place, followed by the march past, the cadets returning to Palmerston to entrain for their homes. Veterans, sixteen in all, were also inspected.

PUBLIC RECEPTION AT PALMERSTON. Palmerston U.. Last Night. There was a large attendance at the A. anxl P. Hall to extend a welcome to General Hamilton this evening, the Mayor, Mr. J._A. Xash, presiding. The General was welcomed by the Mayor and Mr. Knick, M.P. ITe expressed himselt as well pleased with the display given by the cadets, and contended that the anxiety of those at Home who had relatives fighting in the early stages of the. South African war was responsible for the springing up of the activity in military mutters. Since the war that feeing had not been allowed to die out. General Godlcy referred to the enthusiasm shown by I'alnicMton in military matters. AT NEW PLYMOUTH. THE VETERAN'S' PROGRAMME.

The numbers o!' the Taranaki branch of the Royal New Zealand Society of Veterans will meet, at the. racecourse at 2 p.m. -to-morrow 011 the occasion of the visit of General Sir lan Hamilton. Wives of veterans will also be welcomed. The veterans will then fall in in open order for inspection. In the evening from G. 30 a social hour or two will be spent in the Foresters' Hall to receive veterans from Hawera, of whom at least thirty are expected. General Hamilton and his stall will lie present at this fuuetion during the .course of the evening.
