The Irish Question

ULTSBRMEX'S EARNE.STNS9B. AN APPBAL FOR EMPIRE BROTHERHOOD. Bjr Cable —Press Association—Copyright Received 18, 10.35 p.m. London, May 11. Bisfaop Frodeham, in a letter emphasising th* Ulster volunteers' earneetDeM, appeals to all sides to abstain from provocation, which is almost certain to precipitate a conflict. After watching the wider growth of Australian titieenrihip, b« is inspired by the eonviction ifcafe it is essential that there should be «. brotherhood of the All-British peo- ; pie*. If th* wedge is driven in at UUter it will tear asunder the hope# of a uited Ireland and a united Bmre. THS BIX YBARS' EXCLUSION PROPOSALS. ->J SECURITY CAN BE GIVBK R*ceived 18, 10.35 p.m. London, May 18. The Chronicle, in its "Political Note#,* says there is no great gulf between the proposed time limit for Ulster and 6ir Edward Carson's formula. Until Parliament otherwise determines, no Parliament caJt bind its successor, and ifcere it no security that the eix years, even if enacted, would be left intact by a succeeding Parliament. If the time limit goes, any county, excluding Ulster should bo enabled to enter whenever it wished. Nobody believes tihat the exclusion will be permanent, inasmuch oa the centripetal force of a National Parliament is bound ultimately to draw Ireland together.

ARMS FOR ULSTER. London, May 17. The Limerick County Council unanimously passed a resolution supporting the Nationalists' volunteer movement. Mr. Lundo», M.P., supporting the recolutioa, said that when Home Rule was on the statute books 200,000 volunteers would parade in Dublin to prevent th« withdrawal of the dearly-won measure. Despite the vigilance of Customs officers ft large consignment of rifles and ammunition has been landed in various parts of the west coast of Ireland, for the Nationalist volunteers.
