A HARBOR COLLISION. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Saturday.
Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., delivered the Marine Court's decision in connection with the enquiry into the collision between the small steamer Pilot and the yacht Atlanta on April 13. The finding wa§.. that the primary cause of the collision was the failure of the •master of the Atlanta to keep a proper lookout, but Captain Jones, master of the Pilot, committed an error of judgment in not taking steps to avoid collision when lie saw it was imminent and the .Atlanta was keeping' on her course. This was brought about by the practice of yachtsmen in Wellington harbor sailing close to steamers and then suddenly tacking. The court moved that the master and owner of the Atlanta pay the assessors £3 3s in connection With the enquiry, and otherwise each party to pay its own costs.
