* Jujk The Rer. Frank Halea returned New Plymouth by mail train on Saturday. A Montreal cablegram report# the death of Mr Monk, ex-Minister of Publi# Works in the Borden Cabinet. Senior-Sergeant Haddrell, in charge of the New Plymouth police force, return-, cd on Saturday night from a holiday, spent in the south. . Advices from England have been received iu Sydney of the death of the Rev. Dr. Robertson, a veteran New Hebrides missionary. He was an Australian. Mr Williams, general manager of the Bank of Australasia, has been appointed by the Olympic Federation to represent Australasia at die Paris International Congress, instead of Mr George Shand. A Chiistchurch telegram on Saturday night reported the death of Sirs Annie Quavlo' Tovvnend. The late Mrs Townend was the only daughter of the late Mr G. H. Moore, of GlenniUrk, and the widow of the late Dr. Towcnd, of Ohristchurch. The deceased lady, who led the most retired life, was chiefly known for her charitable works. She was one of the kindest and most humane of women. and was noted for her great beneions. She wis a most liberal contributor lo charitable and deserving objects, in many cases anonymously. She was greatly beloved by all who knew her. The deceased lady was niarried in • September, lflfiO, to Dr. Joseph Henry Townend. who died a few year* later. She had been in ill-health for mors than a fortnight past.
