EGMONT RACING CLUB. WINTER MEETING. CONCLUDING DAY'S SPORT. The Egmont Racing Club's Winter meeting was concluded in fine weather yesterday. The course was in good order, although heavy showers fell on the previous night. The attendance was large, the gates registering £l4 more than for the corresponding day last year. The racing was again splendid, and the finishes very close. Shortly before the last race a Wanganui Maori caused some excitement by attempting to <lrive his cut at a fast pace on to the front lawn. After a short scuffle the police removed the offending native. Mr Hartgill gave his decisions promptly, and, with one exception they appeared to leave no room for doubt. Many people imagined that M'aniaroa beat Styrax in the Opeke Handicap, but the finish was so close —four horses being almost in line —that only the man in the box could Teally judge. Dustins, Ltd., were responsible for the catering, and Mr E. Whittle had charge of the licensed 'booths, both 'being run /satisfactorily. The Hawera Brass Band again supplied the music, and the club's secretary, Mr Turton, had everything in apple-pie order. The totalisator figures for the day were £15,880, as against £13,487 10s on the second day last year, an increase for the day o'f £2392 10s. For the meeting the investments totalled £30,780 10s, being an increase of £6041 on the totalisator figures for the winter meeting last year. The adjourned enquiry into the complaint against J. O'Shea for interference was concluded to-day. It was proved that O'Shea's mount, Tyson, was responsible for the interference, but O'Shea was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether it was intentional or not. H. Young and Stevenson (jockeys) were cautioned for giving unsatisfactory evidence. No evidence was taken in the enquiry re bumping in the Ladies' Purse, run on the first day. Details of the racing:—
