SPORTING.

EGMONT WINTER MEETING. FIIWT DAV'S RACES. Tlie weather was fine for the opening day of thii Kgmont R.C. Winter meeting', and a fair crowd rolled up at 11awera yesterday, the amount taken at tlie sates being only £l2 less thai that taken on tlu: first day last year. Good fields faced Mr O'Connor, and were sent oil' in fair order. The finishes were very close, rellecting great credit on the <'lnh's handicapper, Mr Geo. Morse, The lawns and racing track were splendid, and the fact that live llaweratrained horses won yesterday shows that the tracks have been kept in line condition by Mr Alf Morse, in spite of the heavy rain experienced of late. An enquiry was held into interference met by Patronale, Kaniki, and Sir Moseley in tlie Tawliiti Handicap, but it was decided that the (rouble was purely accidental. lu the same race H. The enquiry was adjourned until to-morrow, as was also an "inquest" into a squabble in the Ladies' Purse.
