SOUTH TARANAKI REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. There was an attendance of about twelve at the annual meeting of the South Taranaki Referees' Association which was held at Hawera on Saturday night. Mr. A. Leee presided. The annual report stated, inter alia that the season on the whole had been very successful. Six new members had been enrolled. The Association regretted having lost the services of Messrs O'Dea, Forsyth, Allen and Mason, who had. resigned owing to business and pressure of time. The Association desired to thank the Taranaki Rugby Referees' Association for a contribution of £3 towards carrying on the work, and also for passes which entitled everyhol3er to admittance to all matches in Taranaki controlled by the Rugby Union. Members on the whole had been very keen, all members present at matches assisting to keep the ground and lines clear of spectators, thus saving their active fellow-members unnecessary delay in carrying out their duties. The Association felt gratified in having one of its mcmbero (Mr. Nielson) appointed for the Taranaki-Wellington match, which was played at Ilawera. In the past a referee had always been/ selected from the northern end, or outsido the province, for important matches, and such an appointment must certainly show that the members of the Association were enthusiastic and took an interest in their work. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £3 7s 9d. Messrs J. D. Crowley, Jno. Grant, C. Langdon and J. McLeod were elected members of the Association. Tho following officers were elected:— Chairman, Mr. A. Lees (re-elected); secretary, Mr. D. Hyan; executive, Messrs Nielson (Raliotu), Lees (Okaiawa), A'Court (Hawera), and Mason (Pihama); delegates to the Taranaki Referees' Association executive, Messrs Lees and Ryan. . The question of having matches started at the right time yas introduced by Mr. Nielson. Mr. Crowley considered this might be made a hard and fast rule in the towns, hut in South Taranaki, where players had to travel long distances, it could not be strictly enforced. lie certainly believed it would be a good thing if matches could be playe. to time, because it was no satisfaction to players or re ferees to play matches in darkness. It was resolved that the delegates to the Taranaki executive should bring th# matter forward at the first meeting.
