STRATFORD HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of tlie Board was held on Tuesday, there being present Msessrs J. Smith, \V. Rogers, J. Christoffel, E. Walter, .A, Meredith, E. Hine and C. D, Sole.
In the absence of the chairman (Mr. J. McAllister), Mr. J, Smith was called upon to preside.
DISTRICT SEBSE. Dr. Valintine wrote stating that the Department's subsidy for donations towards the salary >6! a Plunket nunjp was "24s in the £ irp to £IOO, so that it was necessary tor £B3 ds 8d to be collected for defraying the expense of each of two nurses in order to obtain a subsidy of £2OO thereon. The secretary stated that Mrs. A. W. Budge had collected and paid in £l4 for the nurse "fund. He also stated that there was an idea to join forces with Hawera in obtaining a rfiirse, each district paying a proportion of the expense.
After some discussion, it was decided to allow the matter to stand over for the present.
THE HANCE CASE. In connection with Mr. Hance's letter, the matron reported:—"Nurse liealy, who was nurse at the isolation ward when Mrs. Hance came' to see her son, said that Mrs. Hance, with her husband, visited her-son on March 9. Mrs. Hance did not come on to the verandah, hut stood some distance from it. The nurse took a chair out of the kitchen, where 110 starlet fever patient has ever been, carried it round outside; ami put it on the glass, some distance from the verandah, :for Mrs. Hance to sit on, as her husbimd ihad told the nurse that she <Mrs. Hance) had been in bed for a week, anil had a bad leg. Mrs. Banco, did not visit her son every flay."
It was pointed out that the complaint made was that Mrs. Hance had gone deliberately on to the verandah and sat there with her son.
The matron's report was considered satisfactory, and a copy of it is to be sent to Mr. Hance. REPORTS.
The medical superintendent (Dr. Steyen) reported that during April 20 patients were admitted, 17 were discharged, and 16_ remained. There had been ojie d'eath'and 12 operations. A, scar]»4 fever patient was in the isolation ward.—Received.
The health inspector reported three cases of scarlet fever, one of tuberculosis, ione .of infantile paralysis, and one of chicken-pox. in the borough, all the patients having been, isolated at their homes .except .the scarlet fever case, which was taken to the hospital. A suspected .case of scarlet fever at YVhangamomona ;had been isolated, and precautions taken to prevent the infection spreading. Five hotels had been inspected aaid licensees requested to have defects attended to. Three fruit- shops and three butchers' shops were inspected. There had been ..condemned and destroyed: A 2011> <cuse .of pears, 14!b of beef brawn and 31b off pressed beef. Other premises inspected ; in the counties of Stratford anil TOmnganiomonu, were reported upon. Mr. Sole, «n behalf of the Visiting Committee, reported that everything at the hospital was in first-class order; that the new ;huil|lings were well In hand, and would be completed at the due date, and that ;the garden and grounds were in good order.—The report was received. GENERAL. The. Hawera Board wrote objecting to pay a claim for special medical attendance in a ease belonging t to .that district. —lt was decided to press for tlie .amount.
