ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A .MOTOR CAPSIZES. By Telegraph—Press Association, Christchurch, Last Night. An unfortunate accident occurred yesterday to u party of Christchurch men, who bad motored out to Southbridge for a day's shooting. They were returning home shortly before 5 o'clock-, and had reached Irwell when one of the back tyres, in turning sharply round, blew out. The car. capsized, and threw its four occupants from their seats. Throe were thrown clear, but William Henry Ashwortb, a butcher, vyas pinned under the car. A pa-sing motor drove back to Leeaton. and secured medical aid. Ashworth had his leg broken, and this was set by the. doctor. Another member of the party, H. Wright, a coal merchant, also required medical aid, but on examination at the Christchurch hoa--pital later lie wasxfound to be suffering only from severe bruises." Geo. Lawrence, the driver and owner of the car, and John Shaw, who also occupied the front, scat, wore more fortunate, ams ! escaped with minor injuries.
KANIEBI FORKS FATALITY. ' Hokilika,' Last Night. Lengthy evidence was given at the inquest to-day concerning'the death of Hemini Sarginson, Who''was*found dead in the Ross Goldfields, Ltd., power-house on Saturday. Mr. Hewitt, coroner, delivered the following verdict: "That the deceased was killed by an electric shock sustained in the Kanicri Forks powerhouse, there being no evidence to show how the fatality occurred," the coroner adding that the dangerous parts of tie I machinery were adequately protected.
A SHIP'S COOK KILLED. Wellington, Last Nigbt.. Thomas Black, cook on the steamer Whangape, who fell from the saloon deck to the main deck yesterday, suffering a scalp wound and concussion of thu brain and injury to the vault of the skull, died in the hospital to-njght.
OLD WOMAN'S DEATH. Invercargill, Last Night. Christina McKinnon, a married woman, seventy years of age, of Otara, died oil Sunday, it is believed of heart disease, but an inquest will be lield.
DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE. Invercargill, Last Night. : Thomas Honeychurch, 80 years ef aga, dropped dead at his residence, Whitechapel, Arrowtown, on Sunday. Death was due to heart failure.
