HEAVY WEATHER.
RIVERS FLOODED OX THE MAST COAST. TWO MEN DROWXED. By Telegraph—Press Association. - Gisborne, Last Night. Heavy rain hag'been falling for the past few days, and all the district rivers are running higli, though there is' at present no danger of hoods. A man named Ileenan, whose Christian name is unknown, was drowned tj»fs afternoon in a flooded creek near Patutalii. He had been camped with a party on the banks of the stream, and in some manner fell into the torrent. A mate went in after him, but his efforts at rescue were unsuccessful, and he regained the bank in an exhausted condition himself.
A man named Jenkins is bijlicvcd to have been drowned in a river six miles from Tiniroto. Jenkins is supposed to have come from Frasertown and on his way to Ituakituri, where was to obtain employment. He evidently did not know the district, and, instead of using the suspension bridge, attempted to negotiate, a ford which, • in the swollen state of the river, was quite impassable. A settler lower down-the river found Jenkins' hat and pack-horse in the stream, but so far there is no trace of the rider.
COASTAL SHIPPING DELAYED. Wellington, List Night. Wellington has felt a cold week-end sna)i of winter. A southerly wind has been accompanied by heavy rain, which lasted throughout the night, and all today, cll'ectually stopping work on the wharves and causing much delay among coastal vessels.
