DISTRICT NEWS.
INGLEWOOD. (From Our Own Correspondent). Our town is at present full of excitement over the Carnival Queen election, and on Saturday the rival colors were flying and the prospective ticket-sellers were also busy. Mr. Lints, who has been engaged to organise the carnival, has not returned yet from Timaru. Meantime the various committees are busy getting' ready for a big move in various directions for advancing the interests of their candidates.
The Clifton seniors challenged the local footballers to a friendly game on Saturday, but owing to the rough weather the loading of the Home boat was delayed, in which work about half the Clifton team were engaged. The gate takings were in aid of the sports candiaate, Miss C. M. Nishet. The Fire Brigade committee are working up a social on behalf of their candidate, Miss E. Hawke, while many are of opinion that the Country Girl's success is a foregone conclusion. The next fortnightly Druids' dance will be held soon.
The Borough Council have effected considerable improvements to some of the principal footpaths. This is much appreciated by pedestrians.
