LOAN WORK. Formation Very little formation work has been possible owing to wet weather. Hobson street: Owing to the soft nature of the earth during' the wet weather little progress was made in this street. Watson street: About 150 cubic yards of earth was carted into the filling at the. intersection of Watson and U'ach streets. McLean street: Formation work in this street has been held up owing to easements required in Nob's Line, where the remainder of the spoil is required. Carrington road (upper): The formation is nearly complete, buthad to be abandoned owing to wet weather.

_ Metalling—Vivian street: The metalling from Morley street westward to the end of the formation is just abo" ! complete, but owing to wet weather it has not been possible to blind it yet. Wakefield street: The metalling on this street is complete and will be blinded in the course of a few days. ' Bell street: The metalling in this street is complete and will be blinded shortly. Victoria road: About four chains'of the road has been re-metalled and blinded. Kerbing and channelling. —Devon street: Approximately 50 chains of kerb only, and 52 chains of kerb and channel, have been completed. Hobson street: Four chains of kerb and channel have been completed at the northern end. Gover street: Twelve chains of kerb and channel have been laid, including four street crossings. Previous to the laying of this kerb and channel Leach and Cover streets' intersection was always flooded in wet weather. This, however, is now remedied, as was proved by the last heavy storm. The concrete mixer worked 14 days with a staff of seven men, who laid' 58 chains of kerb and f!4 chains of kerb and channel. Waterworks.-The conduit is now excavated to within about half a chain from the river, and the excavation for the flood gates is in progress and will soon be complete. The dam across the Mangarnahoe is practically complete and has stood the strain of the late floods splendidly, although it is yet green. Considerable difficulty was experienced in building the foundation to the dam through the- very leaky condition of the Water tube under the Mancamahoe stream. The concreting of the conduit will shortly be commenced, and the water mains for reticulation have passed Sydney and should arrive within a few days. The relieving caretaker reports everything working satisfactorily at the fillers, the river having been more or less flooded for the greater part of the past month.
