SYDNEY BAKERS ON STRIKE. OPERATIVES DEMAND UIiTTER HOURS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 10, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, May 10. The bakers decided to strike. A mass meeting of operative bakers met to consider the masters' proposals to start at two o'clock in the afternoon, with a forty-eight hours week; or to start at eleven o'clock at night and work for forty-four hours. These were rejected, the meeting deciding not to work unless the dough was ready 'between eight and ten in the morning. Both masters and men state that plenty of bread will be available to-morrow.
THE STRIKE SETTLED. NEW WORKING CONDITIONS ARRANGED. Received 11, 12.45 a.m. Sydney, May 10. A mass meeting of bakers decided to call the strike off. They agreed to <iccept the masters' proposal to start work at noon, with a 48-hours' week, wages to be fixed by the Wages Board.
