Royalty Not Wanted
A PEPPERY CANADIAN. DEMOCRACY AND "SUPERIOR SOCIETY." By Cable—Press Association—Copyright deceived 10, 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, May A. Mr Emerson, an ex-Minister of Sir Wilfrid Laurier's Cabinet, surprised the House, when the announcement was formally made that the Duke of Took would follow the Duke of Connaught as Gov-ernor-General.
Mr Emerson protested against the practice of having Canada governed by Royalty. The idea of superior society in a democratic, country was not good im a young country like Canada. The Duke of Connaught was a splendid man in every respect, but Canada did not want German Princes to rule over them, and the sooner the system was discontinued the inetter.
The Press generally welcomes the appointment of the Duke of Teek.
