Mr. J. A. Nash. Mayor of Palmerston North, has announced himself a candidate for the Palmerston seat in the Government's interest.—Press message. The respect in which the late Mr. George Jordan was' held by old settlers and h'n neighbors was evidenced yesterday by tile large number who braved the wintry elements in order to pay their last tribute of respect at the graveside. The Yen. Archdeacon K.vans impressively conducted the service, and made a few remarks concerning the type of men who pioneered this country, and of whom the late Mr. Jordan was a stalwart and honored member. One by one, be said, these line old men were dropping out,, leaving behind them as a monument of their labors the beautiful country in which we now luxuriated. The deceased gentleman was one of the cry early settlers, having lived here for neary ■three-quarters of a century.
