BRITAIN COLLECTS DEBTS.

The Haytian Congress has authorised the Government to treat with the British diplomatic representative for the payment owing to a British subject, as the outcome of the Tecent revolution, which ruined his property. The British demand was couched in , the form of an ultimatum. The preSencc of the cruiser Suffolk to support the demand for payment was previously ordered after arbitration, but was revoked.
QUITE AN EXCITING INCIDENT.
Received ,7, 950 p.m. Port Au Prince, May 6. ' The Rational Bank has lent the Gov£rnmemt the necessary amount to set§lc the British claim. Mr Jeger (Minister of Foreign Affairs) lias resigned, owing to Cabinet lifficulties over the debt. There wag much consternation after Congress adjourned without reaching a lecisiom, as it was thought that the British Bluejackets would he landed. Pie Government, however, ordered paypent, a»d the incident closed.
