"Hands Up!"
A NED KELLY ROMANCE.' 'IN REAL LIFE TO-DAY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 5, 8.55 p.m. Sydney, May 5. This morning's hold-up at Darlinghurst was the most sensational /or years. It occurred at one o'elick. About twenty persons were in the house, celebrating tie birthday of one of the family. Suddenly a tall masked man entered, and presented a revolver,, demanding "hands up!" The party was staggered. The masked man then whistled, and three others ap-, pearcd. The owner of the house entei- ! Ed a protest but was silenced by the cursing men, who pushed revolvers in his face. The party was stood, in a semi-circle, while the intruders calmly went throughout their pockets and stole' £6OO in money and jewelfery. One guest attempted to escape by the back door, but a robber promptly fired his revolver, bringing liim to a standstill.
After clearing out the party, the men backed through the door, still threatening with revolvers, boarded motor cars, and decamped. Later, detectives arrested David Keenahan, aged 25, who was charged with assaulting and robbing one of the guests. He was remanded on bail of £I6OO.
