A AND P ASSOCIATION.
\ MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held on Friday night, Mr J. D. Healy presiding, there being a good attendance of members. Messrs J. Kippenberger and J. Wallace wrote resiging membership. The resignatioiis were accepted with regret. Mr. W. A. Hewitt's report on the proposal forwarded by the Agricultural Depart, relative to the contemplated arrangement for a regular cable code service giving the latest produce quotations on the Home markets, was read. Mr. Hewitt suggested that the name of the carrying steamer should be included so as to show the price of (say) butter or cheese ex the particular ship which conveyed it to England. - The suggestion, for which Mr. Hewitt gave Mr. Penn the credit, was approved, and it was decided to forward a copy I of the report to the Department. A vote J of thanks was accorded to Mr. Hewitt, for his services in the matter. '
The secretary, Mr. W. B. Fearon, placed his resignation in the hands of the committee. The resignation was received with much regret, and the executive decided to place on record its high appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the Association by Mr. Fearon. It was decided to call for applications for the secretaryship, the closing date being fixed for Friday, 15th iast.
After some discussion it was decided to hold over the question of affiliating with the Dominion Council of Agriculture.
The question of the adjustment of payment of the gift stock money was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Young with power to act. Accounts were passed for payment, and the committee adjourned.
' PERSONAL. The resignation of Mr. W. B. Fearon, the popular and very efficient secretary of the A. and P. Association will" be greatly regretted, but his many friends will be pleased to learn of his advancement to the important position of manager of Mr. Newton King's Kaponga branch, where he should certainly find scope for his abilities.
GENERAL. At the last sitting of the Magistrate's Court there was very little business transacted, it being all got through in 15 minutes. What is still more-remark-able, there was not a single civil case for judgment. A prohibition oTder was granted against a man on the application of his wife, and a fine of 20s and 7s was inflicted on John Zurcher for driving at night without lights. As Messrs H. and T. Marfell failed to appear in support of their objection to be included in the Ohura road special rating area, tho objection iapsed. A local resident Iliad the misfortune on Friday to back a .friend's car into a rather deep ditch where it had to be left until it could be hauled out.
The P.M.. commenting on a case in which application had been made for exclusion from a rating area, pointed out that there was no power to grant the local body costs, and ho suggested that the Government should be urged to remedy this defect.
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. DRUM AND FIFE BA^. At a meeting of the School Committee tn Friday night, tine proposal for formifig a drum and fife band, which had been recommended for consideration at the annual meeting of householders, was discussed, with the result that it met with the entire approval of the committee. It was decided to make a grant of £2O towards the purchase of instruments. The project is one that is very favourably regarded by the headmaster, and It should commend itself to the parents and townspeople generally, who will doubtless give it practical support. The Stratford school is without doubt the premier school in the North Island, and the creditable success which it has achieved in the matter of scholarships is sure to be reflected in the success of the drum and fife band. The large number of pupils passing through the school from year to year will furmsih a constant succession of recruits, and iii all probability there will be keen competition for membership. The band, moreover, will be another strong link in the disciplinary system of the school, and when it gets into a state of efficiency it will add another attraction to Stratford.
BERNARD'S PICTURES The principal feature in tin* new programme screened at 'Bernard's i'icturcs j to-night is entitled "Tin House of Di-i----cord." It tells of the, domestic troubles which arose from a young wife's resentment at her (self-righteous sister-in-law's I domination and interference. This puri- j tanieal individual devotes her energies while on a visit to the young couple, towards ordering the house from the chastisement of the children to the manner of the wife's dress. A dramatic reconciliation takes place through the medium of a daughter of. the unfortunate bride, then grown up an/1 with no knowledge of her mother. A most interesting educational film is "Wine Industry at Marsala." The "Topical Budget"' contains, among other attractions, some striking pictures of (Jcneral Villa. A host of comedies, scenies, and dramas complete an excellent programme. Added 1o this, there will be the music from Van Heck's orchcßtra.
