A Riot in Camp
TROUBLE AMONG TERRITORIALS AT TAKAPAU. •CAN' UGLY INCIDENT." MEN DISPERSED BY THE MOUNTED . POLICE. A LIST OF GRIEVANCES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Takapau Military Camp, Midnight. A regrettable but very ugly incident occurred at the divisional encampment at Takapau after dark to-night. The men's tempers had been tried by the wet weather and ithcy vented their grievances with something like a riot. The complaints were that the men were not allowed to bring mufti to the camp to give ithem a chance of changing when wet; that the country units" will be absent seventeen days instead of thirteen, according to the regulations* and the town units eleven days instead of nine; and insufficient food.
After haranguing in the lines, the men rushed to headquarters and assumed a threatening attitude. They were dispersed by the mounted police, who received a volley of sticks and stones.
Colonel Cliaytor, O.C. Division, addressed the crowd, saying lie would hear any complaints made in a proper man-
The crowd took a long time in dispersing, hut eventually quietened and returned to their tents.
