WORK ON THE WHARVES
DISSATISFACTION IN WKL- P' LINGTON. , as By Telegraph—Press Association. 2' Wellington, Last Night. J' The adjustment of the conditions of ' work on the wharves i 3 still engaging the attention ol both workers aiul employers, and to-day a conference was held between members of the executive of the Citizens' Defence Committee and the representatives of the Wharf Laborers' Union. Some time ago an inves.tigation committee was set up by theemployers for the purpose of inquiring into complaints regarding work on the waterfront. Dissatisfaction, arose in the' union because that body was not represented when the complaints were being ? investigated. The outcome was to-day's ~ conference, at which the executive of the Defence Committee offered to agree ' to an alteration in. the personnel of the 'J committee* , The following resolution was even-, < tually passed, on the motion of Mr. H. ' l' U'tchor (chairman of the Harbor Board) seconded by Mr. W. A. Kennedy, "that it be a recommendation that a committee consisting of representatives of the union and two representatives of the employers, and an independent chairman, be set up to deal with complaints regarding work on the waterfront." It wa» understood that the union's representatives would submit the recommendation • to the executive of the union, and intimate its decision to the Defence Committee within a few days. The union executive met this afternoon and decided to recognise no more complaints from the men regarding non-employment under preference, and to call on the employers to carry out the terms of the agreement they had entered into with the union.
