THE DEADLif LEVEL CROSSING

Marton, Yesterday. iA shocking fatality .occured at Marton Junction railway crossing last night, when the nine o'clock goods train knocked down and ran over a middle-ageii man, mimed John -Swallow, a builder. The unfortunate man was cut in halves and terribly mijtilated. Ha leaves a widow and three children.
Marton, Last Night. At the inquest on John Swallow, a verdict of "accidentally killed" was returned. ,

Ducdnin, Yesterday. An inquest was held this morning into the circmiistanees attending the death of Trooper Philpott, ivho died in hospital us the result of injuries sustained while scouting at Mftt'arac milltaiy camp. After hearing the evidence the Coroner said ;i did not seem that blame was attachable to anyone, unless possibly to dec; ased himself in not having carried out the strict, rules of the frame. He ought to have halted when challenged find fired at. hut his ardor made him gallop straight: 011 with the result that liis horse collided with that of another trooper and lioth were thrown to the ground. The Verdict was in accordance with t,hn medical testimony.
