The Manawatu meeting opened in glorious weather, but a kern wind swept over the course, the conditions almost being wintry. The racing' was good, but winners were hard to pick. Proceedings opened with the Karerc Hurdles. The Rover and Timothy withdrew. leaving six starters. Aruake and lluia were favorites. Jackman led in the early stages, but lluia had the race in safe keeping throughout, and won in hollow fashion.

Fifteen started in the Maiden, W.ini and Encore being hot orders. They had the finish to themselves. Want winning after a good finish.

All started in the Taikorca Welter, Styrax am} Raoli licit) l ,' most in demand. After Monologue uml Alecto had led fur a short distant', Tetikura went 'to the front, the favorites being well back. Tetikura led until nearing hom*, where Paoli came with a magnificent run, winning on the post. Styrax was fourth.

Eight sported silk In the Manawatu Produce Stakes. Charmilla and Football carried most coin. Tcte-a-Tcte hopped out first from (Iharnulla and Bold Stroke, but the favorite was in flout at the turn, and just lasted long enough to beat Bold Stroke in a great finish.

Only four faced the starter in the l.inton Welter, Classic being favorite. A surprise awaited the backers, for after Stockade had made the early running (Ilenorehy went to thu front and won with ridiculous ease.

Klcven went to the post for the Lungburn Handicap. Glenlinmm, Sir Knox and First Consul were the best backed, Cheddar led out of the straight, but along the back gave way to Guiding Way, First Consul got to the front on the turn, but Bonny Helen came fast, and won a fine race by a narrow margin from First Consul and Otahu, with the favorite fourth.

Of tin; dozen in the Woodhey Hack, Rapani and Ifursefiller engaged most attention. General MaiUro made the pace in the early stages, but His Eminence turned for home first. Microbe and Montana then came with a rar.Me and finished in that order, heads apart. Hi*, Imminence a fair third and Pursoliller fourth.
