WHILE MOTHER DRIVES
JI ion I!Ai!V DIISS. A SAD AFFAIK AT ASUIiUIITOX. 1!;. Telcgrapli—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. Tiie ninc-nionths-old son of Mrs. F. S. Wilcocks (a widow'), residing at the residence of \Y. 11. Price, of Scafield road, Ashburton, met his death t'his morning in a peculiar manner. It appears that at ten o'clock the mother put her baby to sleep in a go-cart. She tied his clothes to the back of the perambulator with a tape, so that he could not fall out in her absence, and left him in t'sj kitchen. She then, in company with Price, drove to Tinwald, and after euiiing at a house there, returned to ie residence at Seafield road, having been absent about an hour. In the kitchen she saw the child suspended between the go-cart and the Hour by tiie tape. She immediately got him in her arms and drove to Aslilmi'ton, an-'l consulted a doctor, who pronounced life to lie extinct.
It seems that the baby struggled out of the perambulator and fell over the side, and was held in such a position by the tape as to cause death. The inquest was adjourned till Friday to allow of a post mortem examination being made.
