WAXCiAXUI APPEAL CASE. Wellington, Tuesday. Following is the decision of the Xew Zealand Racing Conference judges in the matter of the appeal by the Wanganni Jockey Club against the decision of the Wanganui District Committee that the .said club be instructed to pay the stakes in the Wcstmere Hurdle Race, run on February 20, 11114, to W. G. Trask, nominator of The Rover, after the expiration of the timo limit for an appeal to be lodged with the New Zealand Racing Conference:— ... The judgment said: "We are of opinion that at the time of the disqualification of A. M. Wright on August 17, 11)12, he. was the owner of The Rover within the definition of 'owner' in the rules. We think that during the continuance of such disqualification any horse, of which he was the owner within the meaning of the definition at the time of the offence for or in respect of which he was disqualified wjus committed, is not qualified to be entered for or start for any race (rule 3, part xxxiii.) We are unable to give any more limited meaning to the word 'ownar' in this rule than the meaning given to it in the definition clause. It vas contended that the. Wanganui Jockey Club was not entitled to bring this appeal, but we, are of opinion that this objection must be over-ruled. We therefore aflirm the delusion of the Wanganui Jockey Club, and determine that the horse The Rover was not qualified to be entered for, or start in the Westmere Hurdle Race. We make no order as to costs. —Wellington, April 27, ISU4. (Signed) George Clifford, C. P. Skerrett, J. G. Duncan, judges."
THE WELLINGTON MEETING. Notes by ''Moturoa.'' Almost wintry weather prevailed on the concluding day of the Wellington autumn meeting, and even 011 the opening day—though old Sol was in evidence —the racing track was holding. It is early to talk of ''mud larks," but nevertheless it cannot be denied that many good horses had their chances reduced to nil through the heavy track. The public, nothing daunted by Saturday s rain, rolled up in bigger numbers th.in 011 the first day, and public and pra.ls waded through the slush right merrily. The tote figures showed a lair increase, despite a general downfall of favorites "good things," and "stone morals" being most noticeable in the nnid-bespat tered rear, and the gathering was in every wav a success.
The outstanding feature of the meeting was the fine form shown by the consistent Auckland filly, Merry Ro?, who ran oil' with the St. Lcger and f!o:ii Cup in fine style. Ermengarde, another of the fair sex by the way, was the most successful Ladoga and Sir Knox mopped up the "splosh" that attracted big fields in the longer handi-! ciips. The Ilighden stable supplied the winner of the Challenge Stakes, the Boniform colt Pariform rather luckily defeating Ringform, who got away last. Honesty and Bee, both claiming Martian as sire, landed the minor weight-i'or-age Stents. (jf the lesser lights, Belasco won comfortably each day, but the form »f the others was as difficult to follow as an anti-totaliaator argument. The most successful horseman at the meeting was ('. limmorson, who rode three firsts, three seconds and a third in seven starts. J. Buchanan also rode three winners, and It. Berry, with two wins, was the only other horseman to salute the judge more than once. Mr. F. Hall got away with the biggest slice of the stakes, £l.i£)oand the gold cup. Mr. Highden took £72S, 11. Nee £4OO and P. Soames £4OO. Far down the list we strike familiar names in 11. Truenian £95 and T. F. Goddard

The ''correct card" for the first day ot the Manawatu Kacing Uub'M autumn mpulin;*. wliieli takes place at Awapuni to-day a in! to-morrow, boars as formidable an eppcarancc as the "charge sheet" . when "• Tinpins. Twenty-ieveu remain in the 3[aiden, twentv-tliree in the Telegrnpa flrindican. seventeen ill die Manawatu Stakes, etc. A penalty of lOlbs will raise Sir Knox's weight in the Longburn Handicap to 8.11, but Ermengarde, b.ing weighted at 8.10. will only carrv jib= extra (!U) in the Telegraph Handicap. The weather promises to be wet and tli3 course heavy. The Hover's disqualification will reduce (ho likely runners in the Karere llu;illes to half-a-dozen, iluia anil ■lackmnn may carry most money. Some speedy horses will probably sport silk in the Maiden, including Want and Vladineau. As Ngarua won at Feilding he '.s ?:oi; eli;/:hle to start. Tetikura may gire a pod account of himself ill the Taikoiea Welter, being a fair peiformer in the mini. If Tete-a-tete, Tavistock and Football go to the post for the llanawatu Stakes a good race should ensue. Chillies ran well enough at Trenth.am to ensure a good following in the Linto'i Ilaek Welter. The T.ongburn Handicap looks very open, hut Red Book and Guiding Way are good in heavy going. Orleans and Portraiture are not overweighted in the H oodhcy Hack Handicap, nor are Sir Mosele.v, Play-off anil Gladiole in the Telegraph Handicap.
CURRENT TOPICS. I'jgmont weights are due on Friday. Bercola is looking very fit at n'resent. Trainer .T. Barlow led in one winner, Exotic, at Trentham. Royal Arms' recent efforts suggest that he might do better over shorter courses. Merry Roc paid two handsome dividends at Trentham last week. Amongst the winners at the 'Stralian <T.C. meeting were li. J. Watt £825, W. C. Stead 'ffioß, and G. U Stead £3OO. John Willie ran badly at Trentham. but he is a cheap horse for Mr. H. Williams, who bought him for 30 guineas just before winning at Feilding. Coronet, who i 3 now back in Auckland, lias left some good performers in this province, (.'on tm> Sluuighran, Cornelian. (jrattan, Astor, P!ay-o!!, Tyson, Connev. and others.
Herbert s flne dividend was well-de-served on Saturday, but many punters put it all up—ami a little more--on Patronale, and lost:
