To accede to the wishes of ;hose who were petitioning for Holand's release would be to make the adninistration of justice ridiculous. This tvas not Holland's first offence. He had seen convicted on two other occasions, in Sydney in August, IS9G, he was convicted of criminal libel and fined £SO, in default three months' imprisonment. At Albury, in May, 1909, he was convicted of sedition and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Dunedin, Tuesday. The Hon. J. T. Paul lias received the following telegram from the Minister of Justice: —"The Hon. J. Allen has communicated to me representations made to him by a deputation introduced by you urging the remission of the sentence imposed upon Holland, The matter has received very careful consideration. I regret .that I can see no sufficient grounds to justify me in recommending the Governor to grant any remission of the sentence imposed on Holland." A MASTERTON RESOLUTION. Masterton, Last Night. The Masterton branch of the Social Democratic Party has carried a resolution protesting against the unjust sentence passed on U. R Holland, editor of the Maoriland Worker, demanding nis immediate release, and further demanding the erasion of his conviction from the criminal records-, in view of the obsolete charge.
