SIR IAN HAMILTON.

ARRIVAL AT INVERCARGILL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Tnvercargill, .Monday. General Sir Tan Hamilton arrived at' the Bluff by the Moeraki this morning and was met by General Godley and theMayor of Bluff. After an inspection of the bodyguard, General Hamilton said it was the first time he had come into contact with Now Zealand troops vsince the war in South Africa, whore they rendered distinguished service. As colonel in the Gordon Highlanders and now colonel in the Camerons, ho was very pleased' to see the tartan. He felt there was a likeness to the Old Country when he looked upon the tartans and the cut of the men comprising the bodyguafif.

THE GENERAL AT DUNEDIX. Dunedin, Last Night. General Hamilton arrived from Invi rcargill this evening. On arrival, lie was presented with addresses of welcome by the Caledonian Society and the Gaelic Society. lie afterwards inspected the High School cadets, who formed the guard of honor, and the Railway Corps. SUDDEN DEATH OF A CADET. Invcrcargill, Last Night. A sad and most unwelcome incident occurred in connection with the cadet review by General Sir lan Hamilton here to-day. As the cadef.s were leaving the showgrounds after Ihe review, where the inspection was held, a boy of about I eighteen years, a member of the Mattaura squad, named Thomas MeDermott, who wa9 employed at Mataura, suddenly pitched forward and fell on his face. Tie was picked up and carried to the hospital adjacent upon an improvised stretcher, but on examination life was found to be extinct. The doctor in charge of the institution lias as yet.been unable to give nnv definite information as to the cause of death, and it is not yet known whether a post mortem will be held. An inquest will, of course, be I held.
