THE HUTT EXPLOSION.
THE ACETYLENE! THEORY,
By TelegTaph—Press Association Wellington, Yesterday. At the inquest into the Upper Hutt explosion to-day expert evidence was given by Professor Easterfield strong y supporting the acetylene theory of tin; explosion. If a sufficient quantity of acetylene could be assumed to bo inside the building there was no need to proceed with the inquiry further. lie held that twenty cubic feet of Acetylene would, with the theoretical quantity of air, cause as violent an explosion as a boiler 10ft onsr and Wt in diameter at a pressure of COlbs to the square inck. Mr. Wilford suggested that the experts be allowed to examine each other in turn and the coroner act as jury ;i n ! decide. It was impossible for laymen to examine experts, who knew" too much.
