QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS.
Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, April 22. Replying to Major Archer Slice, in the House of Commons, Mr. E. S. Montagu etated that the new rate for weekend messages to Australasia via the Pacific would be operative early next month. They would be delivered on Tuesday, and would be forwarded die whole distance by telegraph, if necessary, without additional charge. Major Archer Slice enquired why the further reduction advocated by the Dominion Commission had not been made. Mr. Montagu it was a matter in the discretion of the Pacific Cable Board.
Major Archer Shee enquired if be was aware that the Governments of Australia and New Zealand were ready to provide the deficit, if any! Mr. Montagu: I do not know that from memory, but these matters concern other countries and other Dominions, upon which the loss, if any, would fall. Major Archer Skee enquired whether the suggestion that a daily cable letter service with Australia be established was receiving the consideration of the Post Office.
Mr Hobhouse replied that .i» \rnUler primarily concerned the Pacific Cable Board, who at present were not jTepared to consider the suggestion.
