HUNTING.
NOB 11 TARANAKI HUNT
The opening meet of the North Taranaki Hunt took place yesterday in fine weather, on Mr. Birdlings estate, Waitara. There was a large attendance of followers and spectators.
Among the followers were Messrs A. H. Halcombe (Master) B. H. Chaney (deputy-Master), !U. Jennens, (deputyblaster), W. Cole <T. Cole, G. Foreman, \Y. A. Kibby, <u. George, J'. George, Mason, Flanagan, Davy, Crawford, Nicholson, Abraham, Fuller. (Stratford), E. Pepperell, K. Pepperell (sen.), A. McLennan, IS. Rook, O. Stockman, W. G. Stockman, C. Topliss, N. Rook and Mrs. .Jennens; Miss Viears, Miss Cholmely (3). Mr. Blundell, president, and Messrs R. Whcatley and VV. Birdling, vice-preseidents, were present. The Ministerial party, who had just returned from Awakino, visited the hunt in the afternoon, and witneaecd some of the runs.
The hounds, under the new huntsman (Mr. N. Pepperell) worked well and put tip several hares, one run covering about four miles. Sonic fine jumping was witnessed.
At the conclusion, the hunt was entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs. Birdling at the homestead. Mr. A. H. Ualcombe, master of the hunt, offered the thanks of the Club for the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Birdling for placing the property at their dia-' posal and entertaining the visitors anil members at afternoon tea, and expressed pleasure at the presence of the Ministerial partv. Hearty cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. Birdling, Mr. Birdling responding.
