AT NEW PLYMOUTH. THE NOMINATIONS. S The only nominations received yesterday for the position of Mayor of the town were those of Mr. G. W. Browne, , the present Mayor, and Mr. J, E. Yesterday, at Waitara, a depat&tion, consisting of Org. Birdfing, Langman and Rattenbiiry, and Messrs Grimmer, Arms and Gribbon, waited on the Mayor (Mr. W. F. Jenkins) and asked him to consent to stand for another term as Mayor. Cr. Birdling acted as spokesman on behalf of his fellow, councillors and a large number of ratepayers, and pointed out that while aware that Mr. Jenkins had no desire for the position again, yet it was recognised by all that during hie term Waitara had progressed in the right way. The Mayor, moreover, tke speaker felt assured, had the support of the majority of the residents of the town, and ihe pressed on him to allow himself to be nominated and cosduet the present Council for < the remainder of its term. Mr. Jenkins, in .reply, stated that he had had no intention of seeking rc-4lee-tion, but as it appeared to be the general wish that ihe should do so, and, as he had such a good Council ibehind him, ho would accede to the request. He. thanked the deputation for the manner in which they iliad referred to his work as Mayor, and hoped always to merit ttar confidence while in that office. His being the only nomination received, Mr. Jenkins was declared elected Mayor. This makes his seventh term of office. The nomination paper was signed iy the members of the deputation, Cr. Spurdle and Mr. Newbery. IX OTHER PLACES. WELLINGTON. Wellington, Monday. roui nominations have been received lor the Mayoralty in Wellington, viz., Messrs J. P. Luke, D.' McLaren, H. Holland and J. Glover. Messrs Holland! Glover are both nominated oil behalf of t'he Social Democratic Party owing to the uncertainty of the position of the former, in view of the judgsient expected to be given shortly by the Court of Appeal.
