With Easter meetings raging all over the country, and Taranaki-owned horses racing at Ellerslie, Feilding, Wairarapa and Riccarton, punters have been hard put-to to keep up with tlhe results pouring in from all parts. But sweeping up after the carnival we find that Taranaki horses have had a fair innings, Patronale, Lord Lupin and Fisher .winning at Ellerslie; Manawakaha, Ineuru and John Willie at Feilding; and Rutana at the Wairarapa .meeting. In ddition, second money was mopped up (thankfully) by ' the owners of Gerberga, Wat'iie, Play, Off, Timothy, Tetikura and Martingale. Pride of place goes to Manawakaha, who won the Feilding Cup rather easily. And who will say that Mr. .J. T. Radford did not deserve a decent win with the Cordon Rouge gelding? Always a good track horse, Manawakaha has almost broken "Jimmy'' Barlow's heart by his indifferent displays with the colors up. Ineuru won a double in good style, and John Willie upset most punters' speculations by easily accounting for the Onepu'hi Welter, At Ellerslie, Patronale, , after getting a bad bumping in the Handicap, came out 011 Monday and won the Stewards' Handicap, and his stable-mate, Cerberga, filled the role of runner.-up in the Mangere Handicap. Both horses returned fine dividends, whicili were welcomed locally. Lord Lupin proved himself a fine bit of stuff by winning a sprint event each day, beat-y ing good horses and paying a great price in the second effort. And at the Wairarapa meeting the consistent Ratana added another to his remarkable list of victories, while Watine ran Sir Saracen to a neck in the Wakalii Hack Handicap. Of the unsuccessful ones. Crown Pearl and Royal Arms, though apparently very well, ran much below their usual form, and Sir Moseley was another to let down his party badly each day at Ellerslie. Bercola fell at the fourth fence in the Brighton Hurdles, when going well, but fortunately escaped injury. At Feilding Play Off, 'Tetikura and Timothy all ran "seconds," beaten on their merits, apparently, wliilo Glenfern, Kurnalpi, Florist, Styrax and Smilax all ran poorly. Grattan shoved a lot of pace in the earlier stages of his races, but was plainly racing beyond his pet distances. Most surprising of all was Cornelian's failure to make good at Riccarton. He jumped wretchedly, they say, and a can't go "smacking 'em up" with impunity and then have a winning chance against speedy and accurate fencers. Taking the meetings right through, our horses did not fare.badly.
