The steady growth of the Electric Light Department lias lieen well maintained during the year just completed. New connections to the number of 238 have been added, making a total on March 31st of 1300/ The output for the year, as recorded by. the sub-station meters, was 460,300 units, an increase of 00,000 units over the figures for t ; he previous year. The maximum load recorded at the powerhouse was 310 kilowatts, an increase of 00 kilowatts. The capacity of the generating plant has j been increased b.v the addition of a | second 250 K.V.A. set, which was put into service in August, making the total rated capacity of the machinery Plymouth Hoard at its meeting to-night: new intake, at present in course of construction, is completed, and more water thus made available for use, the present machinery should lie capable of supplying the requirements of lighting, power, heating and tramways, anil still leave a. fair margin for reserve. Until the transmission voltage can be raised, it is necessary to use a transformer at the powerhouse to reduce the pressure from 0000 to 2000 volts, when running the new generators. Two 100 kilowatt transformers were used for this purpose until February last, when a 350K.V.A. transformer was temporarily installed at. the Powerhouse. This transformer lias proved more efficient in service and will give ample capacity for vice and will give ample capacity for the coming winter. When the' Jline voltage is raised this transformer will be. transferred to the sub-station in town where the current will he reduced to 2000 volts for distribution, the two 100 kilowatt transformers remaining at the Powerhouse for use in raising°the voltage of current from the two t5 aiM 00 kilowatt machines (which are wound for 2000 volts) to the new line pressure of 0000 volts. As soon as the new substation, which is required for lighting andj-ramway supply U erected, a" new 0000 volt switchboard will be reipiired. as well as additions to the existing 2000 volt switchboard. These should he ordered so as to arrive bv the time the sub-station building is ready to receive them. The new transmission line should also be completed about the same tunc, so that 0000 volt current mar be available for the traimvav motor-con-verters. This work should lie put in naml as soon as detail.-; can bo arranged after the amended license for lighthi" mid power is issued. "
