TEACHERS' PROTEST.

ONLY A SECTIONAL SALARY INCREASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Strong exception was taken by a, teacher at the quarterly meeting of' thb Institute this morning to loose statements that have frequently been made of late that teachers' salaries were raised last year. "Wo ought to keep an eye on these perambulating political acrobats," ho declared indignantly. In further explanation of the widespread nature of the grievande, he indicated number of politicians for making misleading pronouncements as to teachers* salaries. These, he said, wore taken up by the minor press, and would seriously prejudice the efforts of teachers to get material increase in salaries. The fact was tliat a very small section of the teachers had got an increase last year, and these were men who least needed it. What they got last year was merely a political gift, and the public was being misled into believing that there had been a general increase in teachers' salaries. He moved that the attention of the Prime Minister and of the Minister for Education be drawn to the frequent statements that teachers' salaries "had been raised last year, when the fact was that the increases applied to only a few teachers.

After some discussion, it was decided that the executive be instructed to take active steps to combat the misleading statements hat had been made.
