FALSE PRETENCE EXPERT.
SENTENCED IN DUNEDIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Yesterday. ' An uncommon story was told in the Police Court this morning by Ghicf-de- ? teetive Herbert, in a case in which Bryant Charles Donnelly was charged with obtaining £2 by false pretences. The following aliases were credited to him: The Hon. Rupert Preston, the Hon. Kennaird, Dr. Donnelly, Lieut. Donnelly, and others of less distinction. In the . present case accused went to the Otago ;. Finance Company and represented that . he had an interest in a certain estate, and thus obtained money. It was stated that he had been before the court in different parts of New Zealand nine times since 1902, chiefly for false pretences. Two years ago he had been fined for falsely representing himself' as a doctor and conducted a party through St. Helen'* Hospital. Detective Herbert was inclined to think that the man was not right in liis head, but accused said he had all his mental faculties. He [ had been trying to go straight for some time, and was willing to pay the , expenses. A sentence of three months' ' imprisonment was imposed.
