Debating the Budget, Mr. Lemieux, a member of the Lander Cabinet, referred to the navy question. He said it was gratifying to know that Sir Wilfrid Laurier's position at the Imperial Conference in 1911 was the position to which the Australian Government adhered to-day. He quoted Mr. Millen, Federal Minister of Defence, in proof of his statment. Mr. Lemieux demanded to know why the Conservatives, whose loud protestations of loyalty were heard everywhere, refused to increase the British preference when requested by the wheat-grow-ing provinces.
