Many gorgeous costumes were paraded, but hobble and split skirts were conspicuous by their absence. Generally speaking, the New Zealand competitors disappointed their supporters. Bon Ton made a brave strnggla i in the Autumn Stakes, but North-East failed badly in the hurdles, liis weight, 1*2.8, being too great a load for the distance.
The Doncaster Handicap was a great race, and not until the field entered t-he straight could anyone have an idea oE the possible winner. The classic race proved a soft thing' for Radnor, the other starters not being taken seriously. First Hurdle Race, of 500 sovs., two miles—Clontaft 1, Halmark 2, John Willie 3. Seven started. Won by Jour lengths. Time, 3min 40% sec. NorthEast finished last.
Autumn Stakes, of 1500 sovs. (w.f.a.),, one mile and a-half—Allured 1, Bon Ton 2, Aurofodina 3. Seveii started. Won by half a neck. Time, 2min 35% sec. A.J.C. Sires' Produce Stakes, seven furlongs —Imslii 1, Mountain Knight 2, Engeny 3. Thirteen started. Won by a. length and a-quarter. Time, lmin "28% sec. Doncaster Handicap, sweepstake of 20 sovs., with 2000 sovs. added—First Principle, 8.1, 1; Gigranda, 9.8, 2; Taunter, 0.7, 3. All started. First Principle, with a magnificent effort got up in the last few strides, and won by half a neck. Taunter was a bead further back. Time, lmin 39V4sec.
St. Leger, sweepstake of 10 sovs., with 1000 sovs. added (for three-year-olds)— Radnor, 8.10, 1; Beragoon, 8.10, 2; Simon Frisco, 8.10, 3. Only starters. Radnor took charge along the back and was never after troubled. He won by two and a-half lengths. Time, 3min 4>/ 2 sec. High-weight Handicap, of 500 sovs., gix furlongs—Silver Lad 1, Rymerhild 2, Grain 3. Twenty-three started. Won by a length. Time, lmin W^sec. Received 12, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, April 12. Received 13, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, April 13. There was a greater crowd than oil Saturday, when the attendance was estimated at 45,000. The sky was absolutely cloudless, and the weather conditions were ideal.
Sinapis did not show any sign of her reported lameness. In fact, she looked particularly fit.
After Bon Ton's performance on Saturday, it was . reported that Mackay, owner of-Radnor, bought him for' 1000 guineas.
Flying Handicap, of GOO sovs., six furlong's—Gold Brew 1, Aleconner 2, Manchester 3. Nineteen started, including Tatterley. A good finish; won by threequarters #f a length. Time, lmin 13% sec.
Champagne .Stakes, 2000 sovs, added—- " oorak l, Carlita 2, Eugeny 3. Ten started. YVoorak and Carlita had the race to themselves. Carlita ran crooked near the finish, otherwise she must have won. At the mile Aurifer took the lead from Multifoil and Simon Frisco but at the four furlongs post Lilyveil began to move up, followed bv . ing beautifully, gradually drew ahead and increased her lead right along to the Post winch she pa3sed four ahead of Multifoil, who was two or three lengths ahead of Bclove.
