SACRED CONCERTS.

AT THE GOOD TEMPLAR HALL. . X VW The sacred concert which wn* given in the Good Templar Hall last evening, in aid of the Hospital funds, saw Van Heck's orchestra at its best. The entertainment, which comprised vocal as well as orchestral items, merited better patronage, the takings at the door amounting to only £lO 7s. In addition, however, there is an amount yet te> come in from sale of tickets. The put played in the programme by the Van Heck orchestra consisted of such highclass work as Joy's "Monstrat Viam," Roase's "Merchant of Venice," Kusuner's "The Evening Hour," and Rosse's "Oriental March." These, and several other numbers, were interpreted with fl»e appreciation. The orchestral numbers were all enthusiastically received. Captain Stevens was encored for a sympathetic interpretation oi Manual's "Bois Epais." In the second half of the programme, he Was arirailarly well received in Del Riega's "Brown Byes." Mr Murray sang with good effect Adam** "Nervania," and received well-merited recall. Miss Glory Harrison wa» deservedly popular in licr singing of "Because," and had also to face the audience again. Mr Milligan's cornet eolo, "The Rosary" (Nevin), wdth a foil orchestra) accompaniment, >w*a a vex* popular item.

AT THE THEATRE ROTAI* An enjoyable concert wag held in the Theatre Royal last night, in conjunction with an Easier programme of pictures. These latter occupied half tie programme. The remainder wm occupied by excellent musical and vocal items, comprising a special performane* } of Harold's "Zampa" by the, JX jSp ■ ment Band, whioh also gave •tier ae- - lections; a euphonium solo by ;plr 0. Austin, and songs, duets, monrioguea '■'.. aid recitation by Miss Hilda Bishojiwd '* ' Messrs. A. Grey, A. V. Carbiii£p£ Ambury, and others. A special ioaWe of this portion of the programme wna the singing of Mr Fred Kehoe, of the George VYilloughby Company. The proceeds of the concert will be maadeo to ■■ ' the band.
