Ayson (Chief In-' ' spector of fisheries). 1 .. It is l'rofeasor Prince's intention to make a thorough personal inspection of the salt and fresh-water fisheries of the 1 Dominion. He will leave by the ex- ' press to-morrow, in company with Mr. ; A>'aon. They will g 0 down the Wanesnui river, call at Palmerston Nort/h, and ' on to Wellington, where they will joi* , the Government steamer Hinemoa, which ■ . has been placed at the disposal of the Professor for the purpose of testing th« ' waters round the New Zealand coarf. J lie flinemoa has been fitted with otter trawl dredges for testing the ground { food supply, and oyster dredges for the '• Fovoanx Straits ground. ■ ; ; Captain Nielsen, of Napier, one of the most experienced trawlinfcjngster* in , the Dominion, will be in cB%) of the Hmcmoa. The steamer will proceed down the east coast of the South Th en the west coast of the-South T.1.-fl will be systematically tested, with' Ta®- ' 1 man Bay and the grounds between N«IJ ■ , son and Wellington to follow. In the * same way the cast and west coast* of l " the North Island will be tested, and the * cruise, which will last about three -' J weeks, will end at Wellington. Professor Prince will then turn hie attention to fresh-water fish.. He wfll make a special feature of inspecting ' Lakes Taupo and Rotorua, where the '■ Government have experienced difficulty ■' owmg to the marked deterioration ■ ; s among the trout.
